New York 6th graders are now studying Riordan’s “The LIghtning Thief” and Chrispher Paul Curtis’ “Bud, Not Buddy” as the common core ‘recommends’ these two titles. Along with these books, teachers are supporting the curriculum with greek mythology and Great Depression teachings. The fifth graders in my school are starting their new unit on the rainforest having to develop a project where they design a product deriving from materials from the rainforest that is sustainable. I have been building my school collection adding more rainforest titles.
