The Children’s Book Council and Every Child a Reader has announced the 6th annual Children and Teen Choice Awards. The CBC is the national nonprofit trade association of children’s book publishers, and a major donor to the ECAR, a 501(c)(3) literacy organization which is “dedicated to instilling a lifelong love of reading in children”. The awards are the result of over a million votes by children and teens; it’s very satisfying to hear that kids are still excited to vote for their favorite book, author & illustrator. John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars won the teen book of the year, Jeff Kinney won in the author category for his latest volume in the Wimpy kid series: #7: The Third Wheel, and Robin Preiss Glasser won the Illustrator category for Fancy Nancy and the Mermaid Ballet. Barbara DaCosta’s Nighttime Ninja, illustrated by Ed Young won the K-2 category, Bad Kitty for President, by Nick Bruel won for grades 3-4, and Dork Diaries 4: Tales from a Not-So-Graceful Ice Princess, by Rachel Renée Russell, for 5th & 6th grades. I plan on reading The Fault in Our Stars since I haven’t as yet. I just checked, we own it but it’s out, as is every other copy of the 48 in the system. We also own The Third Wheel. Speaking of children’s book awards, our very own Randy Enos has been selected as the chair for the 2015 Newbery Award Committee! Kudos to Randy!
