A patron asked me tonight if I knew why a public library would block its IP address. He wouldn’t tell me which library it was, but he had gone online in this library and was using imdb.com to locate nearby movies that were playing. The results that he found were all in the Boston area. When he asked the reference librarian, he was told that the imdb.com results were from a default address and that the IP address of the computer was blocked for privacy reasons. I didn’t know what to tell him, I’ve never heard of this before. Does anyone have any comments? I told him that if I found out any info I would let him know.
