The novel’s subtitle explains the author’s focus:The improbable love story of Joy Davidman and C.S. Lewis. Patti Callahan did a great deal of research before writing this work of historical fiction, having a fascination with both protagonists. Joy was a huge influence on Lewis’ writings, and I enjoyed this accounting of the relationship between the two, which originally began with writing letters to each other. They were married for 4 years before Joy died, sadly from bone cancer. Callahan lists suggested further reading for anyone who is interested in their lives, including their writings.
