2012’s Me Before You (set to hit the big screen next year) was one of those books that wasn’t on my TBR pile, but had such a strong following that I felt compelled to read it. Like many other readers, I ended up staying up all night to finish it, wrapped up in the relationship between “ordinary girl” Louisa Clark and wealthy Will Traynor, a former philanderer wheel-chair bound as a result of a motorbike accident. When the sequel After You was published at the end of last month, I didn’t hesitate as I had with the original, checking it out the day it hit the shelves.
Without giving too much away to those who have yet to read Me Before You, which I recommend even (or perhaps especially) for those who don’t typically prefer romances, After You picks up with Louisa soon after she returns home to England after time abroad. I think because the original had such a surprising impact on me, I didn’t enjoy the sequel nearly as much as I hoped to. I would recommend it only for those more willing than I to move on from the events of the first book.
