In the REALM charter school in Berkeley, CA, the 8th grade is building their own library. They designed simple shelving in the shape of an X, where each piece interlocks with the next, so the shelving can be whatever height they wish. Pretty ingenious for 13 year olds. They have begun a kickstarter campaign, where they ask for monetary donations. Their goal is $75,000, which will enable them to build a full set of X shelving, buy books, and also build tables, chairs and benches. I personally hope they reach their goal; you can read more about the students here.
