Miss Emily “Miss Emily” by Burleigh Muten is a short, children’s title about Emily Dickinson. The story focuses on 3 children who were her neighbors in Amherst, Massachusetts. They rarely see Miss Emily, but when they do they revel in her lively imagination and storytelling abilities. One day Miss Emily tells them the circus is coming to town that night by train and invites the children to sneak out at midnight to meet the train and witness the circus performers and animals disembarking.  When they meet in the dark that night, Miss Emily pronounces each of them to be imaginary characters to boost the fun. As I lived across the street from the Emily Dickinson house in college, I was able to picture the scene clearly and the Amherst train station (now since closed, I believe). The author is an Emily scholar
