This is a coming of age book about 9 year old Miles trying to understand the unraveling of his parents’ marriage. He enlists the help of his best friend Hector to spy on his mother, Irene, and her new suitor Eli. They begin by rigging listening devices, searching drawers, mail, and computers. They come up with more than they want to know. The story relies strongly on friends, both Irene’s and Miles’, to help them cope with the uncertainties of growing up and growing older.
