Miranda July never names her protagonist- a 45 year-old female artist who is successful, but not always recognized. With a big project in the works, she decides to drive from California to New York instead of flying. Leaving behind her husband and child, she gets about 30 minutes out of town and stops for gas. While at the station she meets a handsome younger man who intrigues her enough that she stops her trip and decides to stay in a hotel less than an hour from home while lying to her husband and child about her whereabouts. Away from home, she is able to connect to a lost part of herself that was unattainable while living her day-to-day life. She pursues this man although he is married and seems to be in a mid-life crisis stage propelling her to take chances and experiment with various forms of intimacy. The main character was not that sympathetic, yet I was intrigued by the plot and how she treated her husband and the life she left behind. Somewhat autobiographical, All Fours seems possibly ready for the big screen.
