Evelyne Redfern finds herself working as a secretary in the cabinet war rooms in London during WWII, thanks to a friend of her father’s. Her assignment is to keep her eyes and ears open for anything out of the ordinary happening. Her first week on the job, Evelyne stumbles across the dead body of one of the other secretaries, Jean. Evelyne didn’t care for Jean, but she certainly didn’t wish her dead. And the plot thickens; a mole within the department is leaking secrets to the Germans, and Churchill wants the culprit caught. So Evelyne has her work cut out for her. Julia Kelly is an excellent historical fiction writer, and this novel lives up to expectations. I would definitely recommend it.
