Ms. Davis has written a very moving novel about Marion Brooks, a young nineeteen year old who loves to dance and joins the Radio City Rockettes in 1956. As a sign of the times, her father was dead set against it, preferring instead that she be engaged to a current beau, and settle down to become a housewife. Marion defies her father, moves out to a boarding house and meets a young psychiatry student, Peter Griggs. Together they hunt for a true-life character known as the “Big Apple Bomber”, a criminal who planted over 30 bombs in various NYC locations, over a period of 16 years. In reality, the police finally solved the case with the aid of a psychiatrist, who pioneered the strategy of criminal profiling. I found this fascinating, as I was not aware such a character had existed. That’s such a plus of reading historical fiction!
