Welcome to the Summer Reading Program! Summer Reading is a free, flexible, 9-week program that that encourages children in elementary school to keep reading over the summer. The theme for 2022 is Oceans of Possibilities, and it runs June 21 - August 21. Participants earn incentives each time they complete a reading challenge and may enter a raffle to earn prizes each week.

Why do it? Summer Reading nurtures a love of reading and maintains readers’ skills over the summer. Plus, it's loads of fun!
How does it work? Starting June 21, children may pick up their Summer Reading packets, which inlude a sign-up prize, the Summer Reading game board, and a tag and chain for recording reading progress. After children complete two hours of reading, they may visit the library to collect special reading beads and enter the weekly raffle. Children enrolled in Summer Reading may also attend special programs, and everyone who completes the reading game earns a free ice cream from our friends at the Piermont Creamery!
Can kids read what they want? Absolutely! Children are encouraged to follow their interests. Books, magazines, graphic novels, and audiobooks all count.
What if we’re away? No problem! Kids who are at camp or on vacation may still participate in the program. Register and pick up a reading log before you go, or request a copy via email. Track your reading while you’re away, and we’ll catch you up with reading beads and raffle tickets when you return.
