Welcome to the Tails & Tales Summer Reading Program! Summer Reading is a free, flexible, 7-week program that that encourages children in elementary school to keep reading over the summer. The theme for 2021 is Tails & Tales, and it runs June 21 - August 7. Participants earn incentives each time they complete a reading challenge and may enter a raffle to earn prizes each week.

Why do it? Summer Reading nurtures a love of reading and maintains readers’ skills over the summer. Plus, it's loads of fun!
How does it work? Starting June 15, children may pick up their Summer Reading packets, which inlude a sign-up prize, the Summer Reading game board, and a tag and chain for recording reading progress. (NOTE: We are happy to place packets for families in the vestibule or to mail them to home addresses. Please complete this FORM to register remotely.) After children complete two hours of reading, they may visit the library to collect special reading beads and enter the weekly raffle. Children enrolled in Summer Reading may also attend special programs, and everyone who completes the reading game earns a free ice cream from our friends at the Piermont Creamery!
Can kids read what they want? Absolutely! Children are encouraged to follow their interests. Books, magazines, graphic novels, and audiobooks all count.
What if we’re away? No problem! Kids who are at camp or on vacation may still participate in the program. Register and pick up a reading log before you go, or we can email you one. Track your reading while you’re away, and we’ll catch you up with reading beads and raffle tickets when you return.

Do we have to visit the library to participate? Not at all! Just give us a call or email Kate at if you would prefer to stay home. We will make sure your reading time is logged and that you receive all your prizes!
