I’m always amazed when I shelve issues of “Vogue” magazine at its size. It must be quite an undertaking to produce this fashion industry standard on a monthly basis.
Of course, those who have steered this magazine over the last fifty years are as legendary as the magazine. Three new books have been recently published on the careers of the three women who have and are presently in command.
“Empress of Fashion” is about the life of Diana Vreeland. The first issue that she published came out in January of 1963. She, like those who followed her, were trend setters in all aspects of fashion. The second book on Vreeland, “Diana Vreeland The Eye Has to Travel” was written by the wife of her grandson. She also produced a documentary on Vreeland.
The other book is a memoir “Grace” written by Grace Coddington. If you saw “September Issue” you probably know that Coddington is the assistant to the present editor of “Vogue” Anna Wintour. Wintour and Coddington are quite a pair, and I am sure that Coddington doesn’t mince words about their working relationship.
