“Precious Thing” by Colette McBeth is a suspense novel set in England. Clara (beautiful) and Rachel (awkward) meet in high school. As the new kid, Rachel is grateful this popular girl takes pity on her and befriends her. They become inseparable. Rachel depends on her as her own single mother is cold and hateful to her. Later they drift apart and Rachel becomes a journalist and newscaster in London. When she gets back in touch with Clara she feels obligated to drive down to Brighton and try to reconnect. Except Clara never shows up, is reported missing, and Rachel becomes the number one suspect. Although there could have been more character development, I liked it okay.
