Home is a short novel that takes place after the Korean war when Frank Money comes back from serving overseas to find that everything has changed. Some for the better, but mostly for the worse. I was looking forward to this novel because Toni Morrison talked about it when she was being interviewed for our Sunday Symposium. She said it was about the relationship between brothers and sisters, which was a subject she said was little explored in literature. Ultimately I was disappointed because Frank Money spends the novel trying to get back home to his sister Cee. When he arrives, Morrison spends very little time devoted to their relationship.
Morrison’s last novel, A Mercy was also short but it was rich in language, in plot, and in symbolism. Home felt like it was a sketch or outline that would be filled in later.
