A woman wakes up and her husband is gone. The night before they were at a party. Yes, they had a disagreement. Yes, the wife drank a little too much. Dani and her husband live on a houseboat in Seattle. She is upset and scared about what may have happened to her husband. She files a missing person’s report. She cooperates with the police. She speaks to his co-workers, daughters, and ex-wife. As the story unfolds, we learn about how Dani and Ian met: both were married to other people- unhappily. They divorced, but did not quite live happily ever after. Like the popular “Gone Girl” we are expected to suspect Dani herself, but the author uncovers the story in bits and pieces making us wonder, “did he run away on purpose to escape his life?” and other possibilities. It was only after I finished the book that I realized I recognized the author as a YA author although this title is for adults.
