Today a local pack of Cub Scouts visited the library as part of a Scout unit on communications. The nine boys were fourth graders at Cottage Lane and all had their own library cards. They were fairly knowledgeable about libraries in general and knew about the online catalog. However, they didn’t realize you could search by subject, author or title. We did some practice ordering, and they seem to understand the process.
What they didn’t know about was the Dewey classification of non-fiction books. They seemed to be amazed that you could find a sports book in the 700s and, more specifically, sports played on ice or snow could be found in the 790s.Considering their ages and that it was six o’clock in the evening, the Cub pack was attentive and fun to work with.
